5 - 7 year olds
Kindermusik for the Young Child is a four-semester sequential curriculum
of music instruction for children 5 through 7 years of age. It is the
final program in the Kindermusik series. After completing this two-year
program your child will be ready to take private music lessons, sing in
a choir, join an ensemble, or pursue other interests. Parents register
their child for a full year (30 lessons) of classes. Occasionally a new
student can be added in the second or fourth semester if there is room.
There
will be a limit of 7 children per class. The program features singing
and vocal development, creative movement and dance, focused listening,
beat and rhythmic development, creativity, playing simple percussion instruments,
exploring musical concepts, rudiments of reading and writing music, and
ensemble development. In addition the children learn to play a glockenspiel
(mallet instrument), a dulcimer (string instrument), and a recorder (wind
instrument).
Children
in this program are encouraged to do the assigned activities at home during
the week. It is not the intent of Kindermusik that the student should
be forced to practice or do homework. The child can still learn from the
program even if he/she does not practice every day!
Sharing Time: Parents and siblings join us for the last 10-15
minutes of every class. Typically we will dance, play musical games, explain
the home assignments and share what we're learning while parents are in
class.
Materials:
The following materials for the child and family are included in the course
fee: child's folder and games bag, family songbook, home CD, attendance
stickers, music at home pages, activity pages, a tote bag and an instrument
(glockenspiel, recorder, dulcimer are introduced over the 2 year period).
